Q: Do I
have to raise the $25 minimum for individual rider and $40 minimum pledge
for a team?
A: Yes,
as the Damascus Community Bike Tour is a fundraising event. The money we
raise will help to provide funding for programs and services that the
Foundation supports. See our
Foundation
pages for program descriptions. Check out our fundraising tips
below.
Q:
To whom should my sponsors write their checks?
A: All
checks can be made payable to the Rotary Club of Damascus Foundation, Inc.
Please write the cyclist’s name and "Bike Tour" on the memo of each check.
Q: Where
can I mail my contributions?
A: Please mail donations to:
Rotary Club of Damascus Foundation, Inc.

Damascus,

Q: How do
I raise (and exceed) the minimums?
A: Here
are some tried-and-true ways to meet your objective:
-
Start
early and set a goal.
-
Take a
minute to think of persons you could ask to sponsor you: friends, family
and business associates — particularly those that you believe will be
willing to sponsor at higher levels.
-
Ask for
more than you think you can get. If they can’t give it, they will say so.
-
Don’t be
shy. People won’t hand you money without your asking.
-
Tell everyone at work what your goal is.
Use several pledge sheets. People tend to give what others give, so have a pledge sheet for smaller donations and another for larger donations.
-
Collect the pledges up front! Our veteran pledge
collectors say it’s easier to collect when you ask rather than go back
later.
-
Do you have an interesting story
to tell? We’ll send a press release to your local paper including your name and where to send donations!
-
Get
corporate support. Does your company have a Matching Gifts program? Look
into it — you will be surprised how many do.

MEETING YOUR OBJECTIVE AT WORK
-
Ask your
company or a local business to donate an item (dinner for two, free car
wash, an oil change, the boss’s parking space) and raffle it off at work.
-
Have an
office auction. Auction off donated items, services or privileges — coffee
and donuts for a week, car valet service, golf with the boss.
-
Have a
car wash in the parking lot.
-
Food
always works: Sell tickets for a lunch buffet or pizza party or bring in
baked goods you can sell.
-
Have a casual day
where everyone pays $5 to dress down.

 |
MEETING YOUR OBJECTIVE AT HOME
-
Have a yard sale.
-
Have a car wash
-
Host a game night!
Donations at the door. Spend the evening playing Trivial Pursuit,
Pictionary, cards, whatever!
-
Have a theme party!
Donation and costume required to attend.
-
Do a letter writing
campaign. Pull out your address book and write to everyone (see letter
below). You will be
surprised how much you receive. Be sure to send a
thank you letter.
Here
is a contribution request letter that works! -- Do a "copy" from here,
"paste" it into your favorite word-processing program, and modify it as
you see fit. Good luck, and thanks for your support of our work!
Most important of all,
send a thank-you note after the ride to each person who sponsors you!
